Journalist Mustafa Demirdag, who also worked at Ozgur Gundem has also been released from Adapazari Prison, after serving eight months, the Anatolia news agency reported. In addition to Demirdag's sentence he was fined TL 1,108,000,000 for an article published in 1995.

The newly revised law sets forth the terms under which an editor may be charged and allows a postponement of the sentence. Those convicted under the old law can receive a conditional pardon but, if they repeat the same offense within the ensuing three years, action will be taken against them by the authorities to return them to prison.
