ANTALYA - Anatolia News Agency
The twin vase was put for sale for 23,000 Turkish Liras at the auction in Antalya.
The second Antalya
Antique Auction organized by Sanat Auction House in the southern province of Antalya
featured jewelry collections that drew more interest than the Ottoman period paintings and objects.
There were 149 pieces auctioned in the event at the Dedeman Hotel.
There was little interest in the paintings from the Ottoman and Republic periods at the auction, but the jewelry collections were in great demand. Women purchased diamond and pearl necklaces and rings.
Speaking to Anatolia news agency, the coordinator of the auction house Cuma Çelik said some pieces were not sold despite receiving interest. “Female art lovers were especially interested in the jewelry collections. Instead of silver pieces with the sultan’s signature, they bought diamond and pearl jewelry.”
Çelik said there was high demand for regular auctions among Antalya’s art lovers. “Art lovers’ interests grow daily. We will organize a third auction in the coming months. There is a great interest in antique objects, and we will make the most of this potential.”
A painting from the Republic period by Ayetullah Sümer was for sale for 23,000 Turkish Liras, and a 19th century twin vase was put on sale for 17,000 liras.
