Jan Boelen named Istanbul Design Biennial curator

Jan Boelen named Istanbul Design Biennial curator Jan Boelen has been named as the curator of the next edition of the Istanbul Design Biennial, which will take place next year.

Boelen is the art director of Z33 Contemporary Art House in Hasselt, Belgium, and the experimental design laboratory atelier LUMA. He is also the head of the Social Design postgraduate program in the Eindhoven Design School. 

Z33 Contemporary Art House organizes exhibitions and projects that encourage visitors to look at objects from different viewpoints, and functions as a laboratory in contemporary design with its experimental and innovative approach. 

Boelen, who was curator of The 24th Ljubljana Design Biennial in 2014, works in the administration and consultative committees of several institutions such as the V&A Design Museum in Dundee in Scotland and the Holland Creator Industrial Found.

The Belgian art director, who was born in 1967 in Genk, completed his product design education in the Media and Design School known as LUCA Art School. The biennial’s conceptual framework will be announced later by Boelen. 

Organized for the fourth time by Istanbul Culture and Art Foundation (İKSV) the Istanbul Design Biennial will take place between Sept. 22 and Nov. 4, 2018.
