İzmir to celebrate European Mobility Week

İZMİR
İzmir to celebrate European Mobility Week Plevne Boulevard in İzmir will be closed to traffic on Sept. 22 as part of “İzmir Vehicle-Free Day,” as the Aegean port becomes the only city from Turkey to participate in European Mobility Week alongside 1,178 cities from 35 countries.

The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality is organizing a series of events to mark the week, which has been celebrated every September since 2002 in many European cities. Between Sept. 21 and 25 the municipality will host events including a sustainable transport panel, the İzmir Vehicle-Free Day, bike acrobatics, and riding lessons for children with autism. The theme of the events will be “Smart and Sustainable Mobility.”

European Mobility Week aims to help create healthy cities by using sustainable transport, raising awareness among local communities and administrators about air and noise pollution, while also reminding people of how the cities used to be before the dawn of motorized vehicles.
