Atatürk Airport in Istanbul broke its air traffic record on April 26 when a total of 1,338 planes took off and landed.

The record came a day after one of the airport’s runways was closed due to an emergency landing of a Turkish Airlines plane bound for Milan. All passengers and members of the crew were immediately evacuated after the Airbus 320 landed before one of its engines caught fire.

On April 25, the number of landings and take-offs was 1,097, due to delays over the closed runway. The next day, however, the airport broke its Oct. 4, 2014, traffic record of 1,326 landings and take-offs.

The record for the number of passengers served, however, was not broken on April 26. While the airport served 165,071 passengers on Oct. 4, 2014, the number was 160,569 on April 26.
