Istanbul to welcome world poets

ISTANBUL
The seventh Istanbul International Poetry Festival, Şiiristanbul, will begin on the night of May 29 with an opening concert by the Borusan Quartet at the Hagia Irene.

The opening ceremony will feature three big figures of Turkish poetry, Kemal Burkay, Hilmi Yavuz and Sait Maden as the guests of honor. Also, students from Bosphorus University will read the Turkish translation of a poem by Edgar Allen Poe, “The Raven,” at the opening ceremony.

The festival, which hosted mostly figures selected from Arab poetry last year, will host Pablo Poblete (Chile), Fatiha Morchid (Morocco), Murad Sudani (Palestine), Bruno Cany, Philippe Tancelin, Serpilekin Adelin (France), Maria Grazia Calandrone (Italy), Paul Shaul (Lebanon), Armen Shekoyan (Armenia) and Dimitır Kenarov (Bulgaria).

The festival will continue in venues including Syada, Bosphorus University, Kadıköy Koşuyolu Mahallevi, Beyoğlu Galataevi and the History and Social Sciences Institute until June 2.
