Commuters in Istanbul blocked the road in protest at long delays in “Metrobus” rapid transit bus services in the Zincirlikuyu district after midnight on June 4.

The number of passengers waiting at the metrobus line’s Zincirlikuyu stop mounted after several buses with “no service” sign passed.

Angry commuters then jumped onto the road, which connects the 15 July Martyrs Bridge over the Bosphorus to the central district of Mecidiyeköy, in order to stop all the buses.

The protest ended after around 30 minutes when available buses arrived at the scene.

More than 750,000 passengers commute daily on Istanbul’s metrobus lines, running on a 52 kilometer-long fast transit dedicated bus lane from Söğütlüçeşme on the Asian side to the district of Beylikdüzü on the European side.
