Two bridges on the outskirts of Istanbul were destroyed in the early hours of Sept. 21.

Two old bridges, located between the towns of Dilovası and Gebze on the Trans-European Motorway (TEM) were demolished with explosives in order to expand the road.

The roads were closed for 14 hours during the demolition process, leading to lengthy traffic jams on Istanbul’s D-100 motorway.

Some 615 holes were opened up in each of the bridges and 123 kilograms of explosives were used.
