Israel wants its energy projects in Greek Cyprus to be run by Israelis and is seeking to deploy as many as 20,000 commandos for their protection, Anatolia news agency reported today.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Greek Cypriot counterpart, Demetris Christofias, met on Feb. 16 to discuss the two countries' joint ventures. Details of the talks between the two leaders were kept secret.
Anatolia cited a source it said was close to the Greek Cypriot government who reportedly said Christophias specifically asked Netanyahu to convince Israeli businessmen to halt their investments in Turkish Cyprus during the meeting.
Netanyahu reportedly offered during the same meeting to undertake all the expenses required to construct a gas plant needed to extract the natural gas found in the Mediterranean Sea, the report said. In exchange, Netanyahu asked that all the 10,000 personnel that would work at the plant be brought in from Israel with their families, which would increase the number to nearly 30,000.
The high number of Israelis in Greek Cyprus would present a security issue, which Netanyahu suggested be solved by sending as many as 20,000 Israeli commandos to safeguard both the Israelis and the natural gas plant, the agency said.
Israel's offer sought to place the personnel and commandos in Limassol in Greek Cyprus.
Anatolia's source in Greek Cyprus reportedly said, "The Israelis were coming here to settle for good."

Brit in Turkey u are a funny guy. The Brits have nothing to say because today they are powerless to do anything about it. They also dont care about Cyprus one iota. They got their revenge against the GCs for daring to reject their imperialism when they let the Turkish army invade Cyprus in 1974. They could have stopped it i but deliberately chose not to. Yet in 1982 they managed to cross half the world to take back the Falklands. Both territories had their integrity guaranteed by Britain.

Jim, "If you said yes to Annan plan 2004, today Cyprus would have been demilitarized today". So why don't you remind us what were the final 11 changes that the Turk military added to the Annan plan in Borgenstock?

Peter Kypros@ That is not true at all, If you said yes to Annan plan 2004, today Cyprus would have been demilitarized today. You want the cake and eat it as well?

If you believe this junk, then you are truly without the ability to reason. This is typical news from "unnamed sources". If you believe the Arab and Turkish press then Israel a: is all powerful, spies everywhere, invincible army and b: on the verge of failure/collapse/defeat - it manages to be both of these things simultaneously. Don't these writers internal logic alarms ever go off?

I would like to see Turkey send a seismic oil exploration ship to Lebanon is some joint venture. Anyone doubt there's oil and gas there too? And sell Lebanon some military weaponry. Maybe fly over Israeli territory for a few laughs also!

If the comments of Sabir and Kypros are to be believed, than we have war imminently and how appropriate for the militarily irrelevant Greeks to sell what passes for their souls to Israel and the USA. On the basis of this thread - countless thousands of innocent lives will be lost in 2012!

Actually has much more than 20,000 commandos to spare. I would also like to add there isn't much the British could do to oppose any Israeli force deployed on Greek Cyprus. Israel has the fourth most powerful airforce in the world. 1st USA 2nd Russia, 3rd China fourth Israel. also has the largest fleet of F-16 aircraft outside of the USA. It's up to Bibi Netanyahu's counterpart Demetris Christofias and his advisers to decide whether they want the commandos on Greek soil and nobody else.

Maybe we must extradite the Grey Wolf 'DutchTurk' to Turkey to complement his Military Services as a pupil. His insane hate mongering here became scary, absurd and illegal. Turkey is part of the NATO but according this joker it can act on its own.
