Police have caught three Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) militants allegedly preparing to stage an attack in Istanbul.
A document showing instructions on how to build the bomb used in the 2013 Boston Marathon attack was found in the searches carried out in the militants’ homes, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Sept. 26.
A total of 25 foreigners were detained in an operation targeting jihadists in Istanbul on Sept. 12, three of whom were determined to be planning “sensational attacks.”
While the remaining 22 foreigners were deported upon the completion of the procedure, two Indonesians, identified only by their initials as E.D.P. and M.T.M. and one Syrian, identified as F.A.O., were arrested for being members of ISIL.
Authorities have also finished examining the encrypted digital documents confiscated from the three militants and have found footage of executions and photos taken for propaganda purposes. The execution videos were determined to be unpublished on any website.
Former videos of ISIL leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and ISIL-linked pictures were also found among the documents.
The instructions found in the document on how to build the bomb used in the Boston Marathon attack were written in English. The Boston Marathon attack claimed the lives of three people and wounded more than 250 people in 2013.
The militants were determined to have been planning to carry out bomb attacks with the explosive instructed in the documents. It was also revealed that the militants communicated with each other over social media.
