Iraq receives 11,054 Turkish workers in 2013

The number of workers sent abroad by the Turkish Labor Agency (İŞKUR) reached 38,061 in 2013’s January-August period, 11,054 were employed in Iraq, where Turkish construction business took charge of 114 projects.

The number of workers sent to Iraq increased by 12 percent in the first eight months of 2013 and reached 11,054, whereas the number was 8,854 in the same period of 2012, İŞKUR’s statistics showed.

İŞKUR sent 9,607 workers to Russia, 2,725 to Turkmenistan, 2,548 to Saudi Arabia, 2,035 to Azerbaijan, 1,193 to Libya, 873 to Afghanistan, 846 to Gabon, 558 to Algeria, 550 to Germany and 549 to Georgia in the first eight months of 2013.

As a result of the ongoing incidents in the Middle East, only 191 workers were sent to Libya in the first eight months of 2012 but this figure rose to 1,193 the same period of 2013.

No workers were sent to the U.S., Britain, China, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Iran or Malaysia during the same period of time, while just one person was sent to Australia and Canada each and two to France and Romania each.
