Iran to resume talks

NEW DELHI
Iran has agreed to hold talks with six major powers about its atomic program in January but the date and venue have yet to be decided, the country’s top nuclear negotiator said Jan. 4.

The six powers want to rein in Iran’s uranium enrichment program to ensure it is geared only for civilian energy, Reuters reported. “We have accepted that these talks should be held in January, but until now, the details have not been finalized,” Saeed Jalili, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said during a trip to India.

The European Union said no date has been fixed for further talks on the issue. Discussions on a date and venue are still ongoing, said Michael Mann, a spokesman for EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton, who leads negotiations on behalf of the six powers.
