Spokesperson for Iran’s Parliamentary Judicial and Legal Committee, Mohammad Ali Esfanani, has claimed there is a lack of press freedom in Turkey, according to Iranian news portal Khabar online.

Criticizing a country’s ruling system is not a valid reason to be charged as being a terrorist, Esfanani stated.

Esfanani drew attention to the number of legal cases regarding freedom of speech violations in Turkey, stressing that the Turkish government should respect freedom of speech as a crucial part of democracy.

The lawmaker encouraged the Turkish government to take further steps in supporting democracy and respecting the rights of journalists.

It is pot calling the cattle black. Rich coming from the Iranians who prefer to hang their journalist and other minor offenders. For the record, I am in way defending the locking up of journalists in Turkey though.

Turkey must act decisively to correct this situation which has earned her international condemnation among foes and allies combined. It is time for pressure exerted by the people in conjunction with pressure exerted in parliament by the official opposition against AKP's echelons as change must originate from within. Furthermore, the constitutional reforms required to tame the out of control judiciary must be expedited and prioritized as this is a rather urgent situation. Regards

How hypocritical! Just look at the situation over the recent demonstrations against the presidential elections! The reason that there may be less political prisoners in Iran jails is probably because the "offenders" simply "disappear". Incidentally that is not to say I agree with the situation here which flies against democracy.

If this was not so absurd it would be funny. Really Iran?

So Turkey withits current government has tried so hard to be the leader of the Moslem world at the expense of breaking ties with its ally Israel, arguing with the US and now finds itself criticized by the people it tried to become closer with.
