Israel does not have to apologize for the killing of nine Turkish activists on a Gaza-bound flotilla in 2010 unless the United States apologizes for the killing of 24 Pakistani soldiers in a mistaken drone strike last November, Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said during a recent speech.

“The Pakistanis asked the U.S. to apologize, and the Americans said, ‘No way.’ So when [the U.S.] comes to us and pressures us to apologize over the Mavi Marmara, because of this or that constraint, sometimes even to best friends you must say, ‘No,’" Lieberman was quoted as saying by the Jerusalem Post

"Otherwise, no one will respect you," he added.

The Israeli minister said his country’s stance on the Mavi Marmara had not changed and defined the Israeli use of force as "a legitimate right for self-defense."

"We were right," Lieberman said. "And you don't apologize over something right, regardless of the pressure."

During a conference in Tel Aviv last week, a top U.S. official underlined the importance of fixing Israeli-Turkish ties and "hinted that Israel should apologize."

A NATO cross-border air raid accidentally killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Nov. 26, 2011.

@Ilker Avni-You are absolutelly right, no selfrespecting or elected official wants to be seen shaking hands or in the same photograph with Liberman, the FM OF iSRAEL, recently their Defense minister came over to deal with Foreign Affairs. U.S. Presidential Elections are bare 5 months away, Obama is in trouble, so to garner the conservative Jewish vote in US he sends a second striger who too does't pose with him, J. Napolitano head of the Homeland Security Office. V.P. Beiden wont set foot there!

To the Turkish commentators regarding this topic: you deny Armenian genocide and blame the Ottomans. How the cold blooded execution of innocent civilians in Cyprus? I'm not defending Mr Lieberman in his idiotic statement. I'm accusing Turkey of war crimes it does not have the decency to admit

They went there looking for trouble and found it, I'm still amazed so many of you are still so upset about this. I don't care where they are from (one was American btw), they were idiots and I feel no sympathy for them. I will give them credit though, they got what they wanted by "martyring" themselves.

@Jack Armeson, and you wonder why people are starting to hate Jews! Turks did NOT murder Armenians.Turkey became a republic in 1923, the Armenians were killed during the OTTOMAN war and with them thousands of other nationalities and religions.Try to have your history right instead of hate. And how many Muslims has Israël killed by now???And how much territory has Israël stolen from the Muslims??One of these days they will get what they deserve. Your reaction disgusts me( a Dutch Catholic).

Mr Lieberman lacks the diplomatic statsmen qualities, nobody likes him including the united states president and hilary clinton, who refuses to see him.He is a embrasment for israel, his remarks alone lacks any political skill implying america was right not to apologize for they mistakes in taking innocent life only shows his lack of moral,s,both incidents are completley different, one was a acident, and the other murder on the high seas and a crime.

He thinks we are all idiots and he is the smart one. US and TSK did NOT kill peace activists, their operations were in war zones, and they did NOT shoot anyone in the head and back by "accident". Murder of nine unarmed civilians was NO mistake or accident. It was plain murder. Killers got even medals and were called heros! You do not apologize for murder, you face justice.

I think Israel should say to Turkey “When you apologize for 1.5 million genocide Armenians then you may earn the right to demand apology from Israel"

A foolish, childish stance. Sounds a lot like Erdogan refusing to apologize for the accidental killing of 35 Kurds recently.

Turk(?)down under - of course you can't didagree with your country Israel, you being Turk does not make sense because you claim Religion as your complaint but dump on the entire country with ill defined issues. Recently I rang-up Turkish consulat and asked one of the official for the Turkish words to describr someon in your mindbend. He gave me two initials, they are V. H. and told me if you are a Turk you will understand those two plain words. Could you please share them with us?
