Turkey criticizes Washington Post news report on PKK
Turkish Ambassador to the United States Faruk Lošošlu has sent a letter to prominent U.S. daily The Washington Post criticizing the newspaper for describing the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) a "separatist or guerrilla" group, the Anatolia news agency reported on Monday.
Lošošlu said a news story in the newspaper's July 17 edition spuriously depicted the PKK as being involved in a civil war in Turkey, despite the fact that the outlawed group was globally condemned as a terrorist organization.
The Turkish ambassador said Turkey, with little assistance from its allies except the United States, had fought against terrorism within the boundaries of the rule of law, human rights and democracy for decades, Anatolia said.
Lošošlu went on to state that terrorist attacks viewed as civil war or separatism gave the impression that such inhuman acts were for a just cause, Anatolia reported. Lošošlu emphasized that the international fight against terrorism would be successful if all terrorist activities were condemned consistently, Anatolia said.
The newspaper did not say when the ambassador sent the letter to the daily.
