Organic agriculture festival in Erzurum
Agriculture and Rural Affairs Minister Mehdi Eker said on Saturday that the government helps to develop and support organic agriculture.
During a festival that was held in Erzurum, Eker visited land where organic agriculture is being practiced.
Istanbul Mayor Kadir Topbaş also accompanied Eker during the visit.
Istanbul Municipality launched the organic agriculture project with the aim of producing bread using organic wheat. Eker congratulated Topbaş for making use of Erzurum's products with the project.
Reminding that the government has already enacted an organic agriculture law, he stressed the government will continue to support organic cultivation and farmers with regard to loans.
Topbaş said that organic agriculture will contribute to healthy nutrition in Istanbul and also help the development of Erzurum.
He added the Istanbul municipality is a determined buyer of organic produce.
“Erzurum is the most progressive province in Turkey in terms of organic agriculture,” Topbaş said.
