The second Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions will be on display Sept. 16-22 in Istanbul's Tünel and Karaköy districts.
The Istanbul Art Promotion and Research Foundation (İSTAV) released a statement announcing Fulya Erdemci and Emre Baykal as curators of "Istanbul Pedestrian Exhibitions Vol. 2: Tünel-Karaköy." According to the statement, art lovers should enjoy works of art not only in galleries but also around the living city. The main aim of the exhibit is “creating sensitivity and awareness against the backdrop of the past, present and future of the city.”
Exhibition participants include Ayşe Erkmen, Canan Tolon, Haluk Akakçe, Ömer Ali Kazma, Hale Tenger, Fuat Şahinler, Murat Şahinler, Ayten Başdemir and Yakup Çetinkaya (all of Turkey); John Körmeling and Auke de Vries (the Netherlands); Carmela Gross (Brazil); Loris Cecchini (Italy); Ingar Dragset (Norway); Michael Elmgreen (Denmark); Callum Morton (Australia); Karin Sander (Germany); and Eve Sussman (United States).
Exhibition features large-scale projects:
The exhibition includes large-scale works described as “peculiar and temporary urban projects” at the entrances and on the walls of buildings as well as in car parks, streets, the historic Metro, the Haliç shores and other public areas.
Brazilian artist Carmela Gross will paint a stairway located at the entrance of Bankalar Street and connecting Galata to Karaköy with red paint. The work will be illuminated with spotlights at night.
The upcoming event is the second such exhibition, with the first being held in Nişantaşı in 2002.
