DYP's Ağar calls for special security for cities
True Path Party (DYP) leader Mehmet Ağar said that the most important problems of the country were unemployment and the related lack of security in large cities.
Speaking at a parliamentary press conference on Tuesday, Ağar said the number of murders, muggings and theft had increased dramatically. He suggested the formation of a special security force that would both assist the police in keeping the peace and create employment opportunities. Ağar said the legal measures that were necessary could be passed.
When asked if the organization he suggested was in anyway similar to the village guards in the east, he said, “No, they are completely different. In the past, there were local night watchmen. In a way, they would be replacing them. However, their control and administration will definitely be in the hands of the police. Streets and districts that are not under supervision will be assessed. People will be asked to pay YTL 5 to 10. This way, this lack of security will be ameliorated.
