Turkish contractor abducted in Iraq:
ANK - TDN with Reuters
Insurgents in Iraq have kidnapped a Turkish contractor and demanded that Ankara stop supporting U.S. forces in the country, Arab television Al-Jazeera said late on Tuesday.
The satellite channel broadcast a video showing the hostage sitting alone and speaking but there was no sound track. It did not mention any specific threat against the hostage, who the kidnappers said worked with U.S. forces in Iraq.
The tape, released by a previously unknown group, also showed the man's passport but it could not be verified immediately.
“The group gave the Turkish government three days to stop supporting occupying forces in Iraq and to clarify its stance on the occupation of Iraq,” Al-Jazeera said.
Insurgents have frequently abducted foreign workers in Iraq. Most were released after negotiations or the payment of ransoms but some have been killed.
