De Niro meets with president of Dominican Republic
Actor Robert De Niro on Friday met with the president of the Dominican Republic at the beginning of his stay in the Caribbean island where he is filming scenes for his latest movie, spokesman for the national film office said.
De Niro will film some scenes for "The Good Shepherd" in the presidential palace, which he toured with President Leonel Fernandez. Further details about the meeting were not released.
Several of the country's historic districts will be used for scenes that are supposed to take place in Africa. Production was expected to remain in the Dominican Republic one week.
"The Good Shepherd," directed by De Niro, recounts the history of the CIA. Matt Damon plays James Wilson, one of the spy agency's founders and Angelina Jolie plays his wife.
Damon has arrived in the country and Jolie was expected to arrive on Saturday or Sunday.
Several films have been shot in the Dominican Republic in recent years, including "The Lost City," starring Cuban-American actor Andy Garcia, and "La Fiesta del Chivo," based on Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa's novel about former Dominican dictator Gen. Rafael Trujillo.
De Niro, 62, previously directed 1993's "A Bronx Tale."
