A security guard in a metro station in Istanbul is facing seven years in jail for allowing four people to use his discount smart ticket, daily HaberTürk reported on Dec. 19.

S.Y, 22, working as security guard at a metro station in Esenler Bus Terminal allowed four people to use his ticket to use the metro because they were new in the city and did not know where to buy ticket. S.Y. took three Turkish Liras from each of the four people in exchange for allowing them to use his tickets.

Istanbul Ulaşım A.Ş. filed a complaint against the guard saying that he caused damage amounting to 4.9 liras to the firm by allowing four people to use his discounted tickets.

S.Y. said he did it to help and added that such incidents take place in the public transportation buses. He also said he had no intention to gain profit by allowing the citizens to use his tickets.

The indictment asked for up to seven years prison sentence for S.Y. with charges of “malpractice.”
