Freestyle wrestler Akgül wins first Turkish gold in Rio

Freestyle wrestler Akgül wins first Turkish gold in Rio Turkish heavyweight grappler Taha Akgül defeated Iran’s Komeil Ghasemi in the final game of the men’s 125kg freestyle wrestling competition in Rio on Aug. 20, becoming Turkey’s first gold medalist at the Rio Games.        
The defending world champion, Akgül defeated Ghasemi 3-1 in the 125-kg freestyle for his first Games title.        
On the same day, Selim Yaşar bagged a silver medal in the 86-kilogram category after he was beaten by Russia’s Abdulrashid Sadulaev in the men’s freestyle wrestling in the Rio 2016 Olympics on Aug. 20.
Sadulaev beat Yaşar 3-0 to get the gold medal.      

Yaşar advanced to the final after beating J’den Michael Tbory Cox of the United States with a score of 3-1.      
The two medals increased Turkey’s medal count to eight overall, with one gold, three silvers and four bronzes.
