Four workers were wounded after an elevator fell five stories during the construction of a building in the western province of İzmir on Oct. 17.

Anıl Canikli, 19, Fikret Keser, 29, Sefer Güven, 19, and Erkan Gönül, 25, were wounded in the elevator accident in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir. The workers were installing the building’s windows while they were on a facade elevator.

The workers were hospitalized with broken bones and bruises. Recep Fil, a witness, said he heard a loud noise that sounded like an explosion and rushed to the scene. An investigation into the incident has been opened.

Earlier this month in Istanbul, 10 workers died in a construction site accident after an elevator plunged 32 stories to the ground.

In another accident earlier this month, a worker was seriously wounded at the construction site of Beşiktaş football club’s new stadium in Istanbul. Ali Babuca fell 10 meters into the site’s elevator shaft and was discharged from hospital 11 days after undergoing an operation to treat his injuries. He received a medical report stating that he cannot work until Dec. 19, but Beşiktaş claimed that Babuca was only lightly injured, and he returned to work on foot three days after being discharged.
