Four crew members were killed after a Turkish military helicopter crashed in a mountainous region in the northwestern province of Kocaeli on Oct. 12.

The chopper left the Cengiz Topel Military Airport in İzmir at 12:18 p.m. and connection was lost with it at 12:25 p.m. The chopper was heading toward the Central Anatolian province of Konya for training purposes.

The wreckage was found in a forested area of the Karaardıçlı region, which is on the back side of the Kartepe district, following a search-and-rescue operation launched by helicopters and ground forces.

The bodies of the crew members were recovered from the wreckage and taken to Gölcük Military Hospital.

The General Staff has released a statement to convey its condolences to the families of the soldiers, saying the exact cause of the crash would be determined after a detailed examination.
