ISTANBUL - Hürriyet Daily News
The 16th Flying Broom Women’s Films Festival will begin on May 9. This year’s honorary award will be issued to two veteran actresses, Perihan Savaş and Zeynep Aksu, who have left their mark on the history of Turkish cinema.

Savaş, who has been acting since the age of five, received her first cinema award at 19 and has since acted in more than 100 films. Aksu began her career in leading roles in the 1960s but stopped acting just a decade later. After winning the Golden Orange Award at the age of 20 she did not return to the silver screen again.

This year’s Success Award will be granted to Suzan Kardeş, a Yugoslavia-born hair and makeup artist who is a celebrated name behind the camera.

The Theme Award will be issued for the first time this year, with the honoree being veteran theater actress Yıldız Kenter, who has been acting since the 1940s.

The opening ceremony of the 16th Flying Broom Women’s Films Festival will be hosted by the State Opera and Ballet, where the artists will receive their awards. The festival will take audiences on a worldwide journey for a week with new films, documentaries and short features by filmmakers. k HDN
