Five workers have been injured at an explosion inside a water transmission tunnel at the Silvan Dam construction project in Turkey’s southeastern province of Diyarbakır, Doğan News Agency has reported.

The explosion took place in the water transmission tunnel located in the Yüksek neighborhood of the Silvan district, where the Silvan Dam construction project has been ongoing, at around 10:15 a.m. on April 21. Five of the 30 workers inside the tunnel at the time were injured.

Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with the injured workers taken to a nearby hospital.
Diyarbakır Mayor Hüseyin Aksoy said, according to initial reports, the explosion had occurred due to gas entrapment.

“The explosion took place when 30 workers were working inside the tunnel. Five workers have been slightly injured in the explosion. The other workers escaped unhurt,” said Aksoy.

An investigation has been launched into the cause of the explosion.
