Five injured during altercation between nationalists and Kurdish students at Ankara University

Five people have been injured during an altercation between members of the Turkish Youth Union (TGB) and Kurdish students allegedly supporting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), at Ankara University on Oct. 21.

Students of the university's Language, History and Geography Faculty wielded batons and knives during the altercation, after which ambulances were dispatched to transfer the injured to a hospital.

Riot police units took tight security measures in the university's Sıhhiye campus where the incident took place, while all classes at the faculty were suspended.

TGB is known as the youth group of the nationalist Workers’ Party (İP).

Tension has risen at a number of university's across Turkey following protests denouncing the assault of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the Syrian Kurdish town of Kobane.
