FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter has expressed sympathy and solidarity for the victims of the mining disaster in Soma which claimed over 300 lives.

An explosion and fire at a coal mine in Soma last week caused one of the deadliest disasters in the country’s history.

Blatter wrote: “On behalf of international football community, I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims of the terrible disaster that occurred in Soma last week as well as my solidarity with the Turkish miners at this time of great mourning. My thoughts are with your country at this dark time. If there is anything FIFA can do to alleviate the people’s suffering, please let me know and we will do our very best to provide the necessary assistance.”
