The Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which is believed to have orchestrated the July 15 failed coup attempt, is more dangerous than the Zika virus, the deputy chairman of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), Mehdi Eker, has claimed.

“FETÖ gave 8 million dollars to lobbying companies last year. Therefore, it is big capital that the state could use in its promotion. It’s more than what international companies use for advertisement. It’s a group like that. It’s more dangerous than the Zika virus,” Eker told journalists on Sept. 6 in Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport before heading to the United States as a part of a delegation that will meet members of Congress, think tanks and representatives of the press in order to tell them about the failed seizure of government.

“We will hold plenty of meetings in order to get rid of FETÖ’s lobbying activities against Turkey,” he said, adding that the U.S. and Turkey were “allies.”
