Fenerbahçe Grundig Men’s volleyball team grabbed its first European trophy on March 29 when they upset Italy’s Andreoli Latina at home in the second leg of the 2014 CEV Men’s Volleyball Challenge Cup finals.

Relying on a crowd of 6,500 faithful fans, Fenerbahçe won the match in straight sets (25-22, 25-19 and 25-17) to overcome March 26’s first leg loss by 3-2 at the Italian side’s venue.

The victory marked the first men’s volleyball trophy for Fenerbahçe, which added another chapter to the history of the successful multi-sports club, founded in 1907.

Initiated in the 1980-81 season, the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup is the third tier club competition of European volleyball.

In 2008-09, the trophy was won by another Turkish team, Arkas.

Fenerbahçe women’s team is also set to take on its opponent on Saturday in the final act of another European competition - the second tier 2014 CEV Volleyball Cup.

“The Yellow Angels,” as the members of the team are dubbed, will host Russia’s Uralochka in the second leg of the finals.
Fenerbahçe won the first match by 3-2 on March 26.
