Hakkari University in eastern Turkey had to shut down its night courses out of concern for students’ safety due to terrorist activity in the area, Anatolia news agency reported.

Students who had to go to and from the boarding houses at night worried about their safety, forcing the university administration to end the classes, said the rector, Dr. İbrahim Belenli.

Belenli said that while students were safe in town, commuting from rural areas presented difficulties the school could not address. As a result, the administration was forced to cancel the night classes, which were attended by nearly 300 students.

Students in the upper classes at night school will be given the chance to finish their education this year before classes are fully terminated next year.
