Father who acted as a shield to protect his son killed in Turkey’s southeast

Father who acted as a shield to protect his son killed in Turkey’s southeast A father who acted as a shield to protect his son during a fire exchange was killed in the southeast province of Gaziantep on Aug. 8.

The incident occurred in Gaziantep’s Şehitkamil district. The unidentified suspects opened fire from one vehicle to another vehicle with long-barreled weapons due to unknown reasons while Mehmet Kızılırmak, his sons, and wife were on the same street.

Kızılırmak sheltered his son with his body to protect him while his wife and other son hid in a supermarket. He was shot multiple times and also hit his head on the stairs of the supermarket during the fire exchange.

He managed to save his son but succumbed to his injuries at the Şehitkamil State Hospital. 

Police have started an investigation into the incident to apprehend the suspects.
