Factory blast kills three in Turkish capital

At least three workers have been killed and two wounded in a blast at a cement factory near Ankara.The blast erupted in the Kazan district of the Turkish capital late on May 24 as workers were trying to repair a malfunctioning raw material boiler, according to a statement from Kazan Mayor Lokman Ertürk.
“This a deplorable accident. The raw materials in the facility’s boiler caused the blast due to congestion. The employees were working to fix the problem,” Ertürk said.
The chief of production, Haluk Bilge, the factory’s deputy manager, Orhan Özer, and operations staff member, Bayram Altın, died at the scene of the explosion. One other worker and the factory’s operations manager were rushed to a hospital.
The explosion prompted a fire at the factory, which was soon extinguished by fire squads. Search and rescue teams were also sent to the plant.
