Explosion in Hakkaris Şemdinli district kills 12-year-old boy

A 12-year-old boy was killed and another young boy was injured after an explosion occurred in the Şemdinli district of the southeastern province of Hakkari on Oct. 29.

The blast took place in a settlement near the Altınözü village, located 10 kilometers north of Şemdinli town, which borders both Iraq and Iran.

It was uncertain what caused the explosion, but Doğan News Agency reported that initial observations pointed to a bomb that was set off.

The Gendarmerie Forces have immediately launched an investigation following the incident, the report also said.
 
A forensic autopsy was performed on the body of the deceased boy, identified as Behzat Özer. The wounds of the injured boy are not life threatening, doctors said.
