President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and U.S. President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Sept. 9, according to a statement from the Turkish Presidency.

During the conversation, both leaders emphasized the significance of a continued cooperation for further strengthening bilateral relations and increasing stability in the region, the statement said.

They also agreed to meet at the U.N. General Assembly later this month, it added.

The White House also stated that the two leaders discussed working more closely to improve regional security.

"President Trump emphasized the common commitment of the United States and Turkey to work together to increase regional stability," the White House said.
