Erdoğan cites Iran for Turkish missile program

ANKARA
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called on the Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) to build missiles with longer ranges after comparing Iran’s missile range to that of Turkey.

Erdoğan said he had learned Turkey was only capable of manufacturing missiles with a 150 km range, lagging behind Iran’s missiles that can travel up to 2,500 km despite the country operating under a strict embargo, daily Habertürk reported yesterday. “Iran is manufacturing long-range missiles capable of reaching 2,000 to 2,500 km. Our neighbor can do this. They produce domestic missiles independent from Europe, and they do this despite the embargo. We can do this too. I want this from you,” he said Dec. 27.
