Calling an early election is distant possibility, but ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will attempt to form coalition, Deputy Prime Minister Numar Kurtulmuş said on June 8.

Kurtulmuş said that no government could be formed without the inclusion of the AKP.

The deputy prime minister’s comments came before his meeting with the cabinet and Central Executive Board (MYK) of the AKP.

“You try to make a coalition. When the call comes, saying ‘Help us AKP,’ we are ready,” Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç said before he attended the same meeting. Asked if they were ruling out coalition with any opposition party, Arnıç said doors cannot be closed in politics. “The state needs an administration,” he added.

The Peoples’ Democracy Party (HDP) had found success in the June 7 elections, but the Republican People’s Party (CHP) and Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) were not successful, Arınç noted.

“We can say that the AKP has the chance to come to power again alone,” he said.

Other opposition parties were in alliance to make the HDP pass the 10 percent electoral threshold, he added.
