Ten soldiers have been injured after a fight erupted at a military barracks in the Safranbolu district of the Black Sea province of Karabük at the reported instigation of a drunken private.

One private under the influence of alcohol returned from leave to the gendarmerie training regiment in the district late on Aug. 30 and started an argument with newly recruited soldiers who were receiving training.

A fight between the new soldiers and their more experienced peers soon broke out, involving 30 soldiers.
An official on duty calmed the fight by firing six bullets into the air.

Ten wounded soldiers were hospitalized, with one reported to be in serious condition.

No guns were used during the fight, Karabük Gov. Mehmet Aktaş said, adding that that officials had quickly managed to calm the situation.

The governor also confirmed that a drunken soldier started the brawl.
