Meriç Soylu, the director of the İş Sanat Culture Center, which has hosted many Turkish and foreign musical performance and theatrical events since 2006, was found dead July 9 at her home in Istanbul’s Cihangir neighborhood, where she lived alone. The cause of death has not been determined and an autopsy will be performed.
Soylu, 39, previously worked for the Boston Celebrity Series, the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and the Berlin Now Festival. Born in 1973, Soylu was a graduate of Bosphorus University, where she studied English language and literature, and of Boston University’s mass communications department, where she earned a master’s degree.
