Nearly 300 courthouse personnel were detained over suspected links to the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ), which is believed to have been behind the July 15 failed coup attempt. A total of 293 people were detained from the courthouses in a probe carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Operations were carried out in six courthouses, including Çağlayan, Gaziosmanpaşa, Anadolu, Bakırköy, Büyükçekmece and Küçükçekmece, Doğan News Agency reported on Aug. 16.

Another operation was conducted in Istanbul’s district administrative court, where 17 personnel were detained.

Among the 293 detained, 107 personnel were from Çağlayan and Gaziosmanpaşa, 66 from Anadolu, 37 from Bakırköy, 27 from Büyükçekmece and 39 from Küçükçekmece courthouses.

Police have conducted searches of the suspects’ homes as well as their offices.

Also on Aug. 16, detention warrants were issued for 83 courthouse personnel, which came a day after the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Terrorism and Organized Crime Bureau’s issue of detention warrants for 173 personnel.
