Defense reporter Şık found dead in his house in Ankara

Defense reporter Şık found dead in his house in Ankara Daily Cumhuriyet reporter Barkın Şık, who specialized in the defense sector, has been found dead at his home in the Turkish capital Ankara.  

The 39-year-old father of one left his 18-month child with his mother-in-law, who lives in a flat upstairs in the same building, on Feb. 4. Later in the day, Şık’s relatives discovered his dead body at his home, Cumhuriyet reported.

His colleagues and friends will attend the funeral ceremony at Ankara’s Karşıyaka Mosque on Feb. 5.

Şık had recently moved to Cumhuriyet, where he first started his career after graduating from Ankara’s Gazi University, after a successful carrier at Milliyet and Akşam.

His coverage included reporting on defense technologies, high-ranking appointments in the military, and relations between Turkey’s neighboring countries, and he also undertook editorial and news desk responsibilities.

He was married to Elçin Ergün, a journalist at private broadcaster CNN Turk.
