ANKARA - The Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs (JINSA), an influential Jewish group based in Washington, praised the Turkish Parliament's decision to allow the deployment of peacekeepers in Iraq and said the move boosted U.S. confidence in Turkey.

That might also give a privileged position to Turkey in garnering contracts in the reconstruction of Iraq, the institute said in a statement carried by the Anatolia news agency.

This is because, according to JINSA, the U.S. administration feels gratitude to Turkey.

Parliament passed, Tuesday, a government motion to allow the deployment of Turkish troops in neighboring Iraq, more than seven months after the same Parliament rejected a similar motion to allow the deployment of some 62,000 U.S. troops to create a northern front on Iraq from Turkish soil.

JINSA said the Turkish government did not have enough experience in the first vote and was subject to pressure from Europe not to take part in the U.S.-led war, eventually resulting in the failure of the Turkish government to back the U.S.-led coalition against Iraq.

The institute predicted that a strong message of "thanks" and privileges in Iraqi tenders were on the way after Parliament's decision last Tuesday.

JINSA, one of the most conservative Jewish groups in the United States, has several influential members of the U.S. administration, such as Pentagon adviser Richard Perle, among its executive staff. Many figures, who are known to be close to JINSA, occupy key positions in the U.S. administration, especially in the Pentagon.
