Turkey will be on the move for the next nine days as many citizens take the opportunity to travel out of town and out of country for the extended Kurban Bayram holiday.

Turkey will be on the move for the next nine days as many citizens take the opportunity to travel out of town and out of country for the extended Kurban Bayram holiday.

The demand for foreign tours has increased triple in comparison to last year's Feast of the Sacrifice holiday, said Mete Vardar, the board chairman of Turkish tourism company Jolly Tour.

“We have sold seven thousand overseas vacation packages. Overall at least 100 thousand people in Turkey will go abroad,” Vardar said.

The bayram officially runs from Tuesday to Friday but many Turks will take nine days off for the holiday.

Many others staying in the country have also signed up for packages in diverse places such as Cappadocia, Antalya, Mardin and Şanlıurfa due to the good weather. The occupancy rate of hot spring hotels in Cappadocia has all reached capacity, while spa hotels in Antalya only have limited vacancy.

The Mediterranean province of Antalya will enjoy average temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius during the bayram, according to the state-run Meteorology Institute. The Central Anatolian province of Nevşehir will be 18 degrees, while the southeastern provinces of Mardin and Şanlıurfa will be 22 and 26, respectively. Fog and 20 degrees, meanwhile, is expected in Ankara during the holiday.

Experts have warned drivers to be especially attentive as roads will be filled with traffic over the break. The manager of

Aşır Sakik, the head of the Antalya Police Department Traffic Control Branch, said law enforcement officers had taken a number of precautions and added that motorists should conduct maintenance on their vehicles before departure and avoid excessive speed while driving.

For those staying in Istanbul, municipal authorities have announced that transportation services, including İETT buses, metrobuses, ferries, tramways and the Taksim-Kabataş funicular will be discounted by 50 percent over the bayram, Anatolia news agency reported Friday.

An average temperature of 18 degrees is expected in Istanbul during the feast.
