Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu said Wednesday his government would make a presentation on "property" while meeting Thursday with Greek Cyprus’ leader.

Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu said Wednesday his government would make a presentation on "property" while meeting Thursday with Greek Cyprus’ leader.

Briefing the Council of Ministers about the views he will express at Thursday's meeting with southern Cypriot President Dimitris Christofias, Eroğlu said: “We informed our political parties about the views expressed last Thursday and the views to be expressed tomorrow. I am here at the Council of Ministers to inform the government.”

Noting that he intended to continue negotiations in Cyprus in dialogue with the northern Cyprus government, he said, “I will continue the dialogue from now on.”

Asked if he would make any suggestions during Thursday’s meeting, Eroğlu merely said his side would make a presentation.

“There are decisions that have been made by the European Court of Human Rights on the issue of property. We will make a presentation on property that will convey our thoughts on the issue,” Eroğlu said.

Eroğlu's Special Representative for negotiations, Kudret Özersay, also attended Wednesday’s Council of Ministers meeting. Eroğlu's first meeting with Christofias since being elected president in April took place on May 26.

Cyprus joined the EU as a divided island when Greek Cypriots in the south rejected a United Nations-backed reunification plan in twin referendums in 2004 even though Turkish Cypriots in the north overwhelmingly supported the agreement.

A promise made by EU foreign ministers before the referendums to end the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots and establish direct trade with northern Cyprus remains unfulfilled.
