A group of Muğla University students and locals planted 8,000 trees for a campaign titled “Plant a Tree for a Greener Milas” on Sunday. According to the campaign, the trees were planted in the Beytepe area, which is located on the 9th kilometer of the Milas-Yatağan highway. Speaking at the ceremony before planting, Ayhan Bayrak, the head of the Milas Department of Environment and Forestry, said that forestry areas have been decreasing for plenty of reasons. “With the increasing population, fast industrialization and misuse of fields, forests are decreasing or deforming,” said Bayrak. “As a department, we try to protect our forests and boost local tourism.” University student Erdal Üzülmez said that the campaign would “do good for Milas,” adding that more projects may be on the way with the help of the Department of Environment and Forestry and the participation of locals.
