Istanbul's 19th International Sailing Week got underway with an opening ceremony Friday, but the real event starts when sailors hit the sea Saturday.

This year the events, organized by the Istanbul Sailing Club, will be not only international but also intercontinental, as skippers from 15 countries will compete for the prize. Teams from Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Moldavia, Algeria, Nigeria, Bahrain, Kuwait, Israel, Tunisia, Hong Kong, Pakistan and, of course, Turkey will try to finish first in the events that will be organized in 470, Laser Standard and Laser One categories, with in both women's and men's competitions.

Races will start in Fenerbahçe Cape in the Anatolian part of Istanbul.

The award ceremony following the four-day events will take place in the Istanbul Sailing Club facilities Aug. 26 at 8:00 p.m.

The media sponsors of the organization are the Turkish Daily News and Turkish business daily Referans.
