Georgia, Somalia establish diplomatic ties

The Georgia’s Foreign Ministry reported Wednesday that the country has established diplomatic and consular relations with the Republic of Somalia.

The Georgia’s Foreign Ministry reported Wednesday that the country has established diplomatic and consular relations with the Republic of Somalia.

Georgia’s ambassador to the United Nations, Alexander Lomaia, signed a joint communiqué with his counterpart from Somalia, Elmi Ahmed Duale, based on the principles of friendly relations, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the non-violability of state borders, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said.

Somalia became the 24th country with which Georgia has established diplomatic relations over the past year, online news outlet Civil Georgia reports.

Georgia has signed similar communiqués with the Democratic Republic of Congo, Brunei, the Maldives, the Marshall Islands, Fiji, Manu Samoa, the Dominican Republic, Dominica, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Botswana, the Central African Republic, Gambia, Cape Verde, Comoros, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Senegal and Uganda.
