The Istanbul International Film Festival is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year by presenting four honorary awards.
The Istanbul International Film Festival is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year by presenting honorary awards to director Yusuf Kurçenli, director of photography Ertunç Şenkay and actors Metin Akpınar and Zeki Alasya.
Akpınar was among the founders of Turkey’s first cabaret theater, Devekuşu Cabaret Theater, and has served as its administrative director since its foundation in 1967. Akpınar began acting in films in the 1970s and has had a successful career that has recently included roles in a number of television series.
Alasya, also one of the founders of the Devekuşu Cabaret Theater, started his film career in 1973. He has written eight screenplays and directed 28 productions.
Director Kurçenli has worked in the Turkish cinema since 1977. One of his most unforgettable films, “Karartma Geceleri” (Nights of Blackout) is scheduled to be screened during the international festival.
The fourth honorary award will be presented to camera master Şenkay, who has worked on successful productions with many renowned Turkish directors, including Halit Refiğ, Sinan Çetin, Derviş Zaim and Mustafa Altıoklar.
The 30th Istanbul International Film Festival is scheduled to run from April 2 to 17. The honorary awards will be presented during the opening ceremony on April 1 at the Lütfi Kırdar Congress and Exhibition Hall.
