Deron Williams produced a double-double with 24 points and 10 assists on Saturday as he led Beşiktaş Milangaz to a 100-93 victory over Pınar Karşıyaka and maintained his team’s unbeaten start to the Beko Basketball League.
The United States point guard, who chose to play in Turkey during the National Basketball Association lockout, was close to his best, probably for the first time since joining Beşiktaş Milangaz recently. He was 9-for-14 in field goals and orchestrated the Black Eagles’ attack throughout the match. The New Jersey Nets star was especially efficient in the last period, which started 69-68 for Pınar Karşıyaka.
Marcelus Kemp had 23 points, while Zoran Ergec added 17 points for Beşiktaş Milangaz.
Turkish guard Birkan Batuk had 24 points to lead Pınar Karşıyaka, while center Jovo Stanojevic had 23 points, six rebounds and five assists for the İzmir side.
Beşiktaş, who started the season with a shock knockout from the ULEB Eurocup against the unheralded Belgian side Dexia Mons, is one of six unbeaten teams as the second week of the Beko Basketball League folded.
Galatasaray Medical Park, Fenerbahçe Ülker, Anadolu Efes and Türk Telekom are the other teams starting the season with a 2-0 record.
Anadolu Efes and Türk Telekom had little trouble beating their rivals yesterday. Efes, who thrashed Partizan on Thursday to start its Turkish Airlines Euroleague campaign with a win, beat Aliağa Petkim 80-65. Türk Telekom was similarly dominant against Bandırma Kırmızı.
On Saturday, Galatasaray Medical Park beat Banvit 84-73, thanks to 22 points by Joshua Shipp, the only player on the winning side to score in the double digits.
Fenerbahçe Ülker needed a late run to beat Antalya BB 81-77. Center Oğuz Savaş had 15 points to lead his team.
