The British Council is currently presenting the unique works of renowned Turkish photographer Deniz Guven. The exhibition will be on view until May 28 at The British Council, Esat Caddesi 41.

Guven's latest works at the British Council show the high quality of her work and professionalism she lives by. With her choice of models, Guven brings certain sensitive societal taboos into the open. When asked why she became involved in this type of art, she explained: "For years I was involved in painting, from which I derived great personal satisfaction. About 13 years ago one of my customers was giving a photography course. I was first interested in it for my husband; however, he was unable to attend it, and since I had already signed up, I went for the one-month course.

"I really enjoyed it and started to become more involved, so when the teacher had a workshop I immediately took advantage of it. My favorite media is black and white. I feel that when you go into the darkroom, you are able to create so many different images in black and white. I am able to do magic in my darkroom, and I can spend hours there experimenting and trying to create something that is both creative and pleasing to me. I don't limit myself only to certain objects, I enjoy photographing everything pleasing to my eye."

When asked how she finds time to run her own business, bring up two children and follow her dreams, Guven responded: "I can't understand people who always complain about not finding enough time in a day to do everything. I feel they're just not well organized. Where there's a will there's a way." Deniz Guven also had a message for people who are interested in photography: "First one must join a course on photography as well as buy a proper camera. Then read; lots of reading and lots of practice. One must never be afraid to experiment; one should not limit oneself; always look for new horizons. And one should always enjoy one's work and take pleasure in it."
